Commercial and Non-Residential Building Permits

Please contact the Township Office before you plan on obtaining a building permit. Your project may have to come before the planning commission for review and approval before permits can be issued through the Southwest Michigan Building Authority (SMBA).

Cooper Township has joined the newly formed SMBA which is an authority that is performing building permit services for Oshtemo and Cooper Townships. The website address is: www.swmiba.org. Permits can be downloaded from this website. We can also provide permit applications and answer general questions at the Cooper Township Office. SMBA is located within the Oshtemo Township site at 7275 West Main Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. The main office telephone number is (269) 585-4151.

You must obtain a permit prior to construction of any permanently placed building. Contact the Southwest Michigan Building Authority for building permit services.
